Mass is one attribute of matter. It is associated with the gravitational force.
Charge is another attribute of matter. It is associated with the electromagnetic force.
The theory of electromagnetism was first proposed by James C. Maxwell:
Light is an electromagnetic wave.
Matter can be electrically charged.
A stationary charge has an electric field.
A moving charge can produce a magnetic field.
Just as gravity accelerates masses, electric and magnetic fields can accelerate charges.
When accelerated, charges give off ( emit ) electromagnetic radiation .
