Gliese 229b is a very faint brown dwarf that orbits a small, red Main Sequence star known as Gliese 229. It was the first object shown conclusively to be a substellar, brown dwarf.
The binary system Gliese 229 is located about 5.7 parsecs, or 9 light years, from the Solar System.
