A Stromgren sphere is the region of ionized hydrogen (HII) surrounding a hot, young O-B star. The hydrogen is ionized by the ultraviolet photons being emitted by the hot star. Stromgrem spheres are also called HII regions.
The Rosette Nebula is an example of a Stromgren sphere.
