Taner completed his PhD at the Department of Astronomy at Cornell University in May 2007. His thesis was on neutron stars. (The thesis is not publicly available at this moment, however, you can still find his research interests here.) He was a postdoc at Cornell University for six months. Ahora él es un investigador postdoctoral en el Departamento de Astronomía y Astrofísica, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago.
A bit about his family: His mother is a chemical engineer who worked for Nestlé (lots of chocolate and coffee - stimulants and antioxidants are good for you!). His father is a retired architect who spends a good deal of time on computer games and painting; and a good deal of money on books and movies. His sister is a painter and jewelry designer. Her husband is a painter, too. I draw (see below). Taner es un tío.
Taner speaks fluent Turkish, English, and Bulgarian, some Russian, y un poco Español. Likes drawing (some examples); watching movies (thou must see these); sleeping; listening to music
(favorites); reading; writing; playing football (the non-US football, i.e. the one and real) and
tennis; running; playing chess, backgammon, other board games, and especially Age of Empires (click to
download the trial version), Starcraft, Warcraft, Red Alert, and Civilization; making jokes; and -of course- dealing with math
and physics. Has tried a bit of bowling, ice skating and skiing - starting to get better! Did a fair amount of ballroom dance. Has
theoretical research of minor importance in math. (Has re-discovered several relations that have been known for at least two to twenty centuries! Including the
binomial triangle.. Some work on trigonometry and prime numbers..)
